The lake glows emerald green at the foot of the Latemar, further up the Ega Valley. The path around its shores takes about half an hour and is open all year.
Walther Square, the medieval arcades and the produce market on Piazza delle Erbe. The bus stop for the city centre is right outside the hotel.
Two Dolomiti Superski areas linked to the Ega Valley, with over ninety kilometres of pistes. Leave after breakfast and be back in time for dinner at the steakhouse.
The largest high-altitude plateau in Europe, watched over by the Sciliar. Gentle trails and mountain huts in summer, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter.
From late November to Epiphany, Walther Square hosts Italy’s oldest Christmas market. At weekends it’s easier to leave the car at the hotel and take the bus.
The cable car climbs from Bolzano to Soprabolzano in twelve minutes; from there a vintage train crosses the plateau to Collalbo, with the Dolomites always in view.
The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology holds the Iceman and his equipment, kept at glacial temperature. Booking tickets online is advisable.
